Amazing Picture Of Saturn
This stunning picture of Saturn and its tiny Moon Mimas (indicated by the arrow) was recently taken by NASA`s Cassini probe which has traveled over 3.8 billion miles and taken over 300,000 images of the Saturian system since its launch in 1997.
The spectacular black and white photograph of the huge gas giant shows the iconic rings casting beautiful shadows on the planets atmosphere with the darker dapples on the planets face being violent storms which experts say rage in its hydrogen and helium atmosphere.
Saturns Moon Mimus weighs in at 246 miles in diamiter and is dominated by a huge crater on one side making it look rather like the Death Star featured in the Star Wars films.
Cassini launched in 1997 along with the Huygens lander. Cassini arrived at Saturn in 2004 and dropped Huygens onto the surface of Saturn`s huge moon Titan in January 2005. The Cassini-Huygens mission is a joint project of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency.
