Double Dating – Good Idea?
For many people the thought of a one to one meeting with someone they have met through an online dating agency can be a daunting one, after all it`s pretty much a blind date.
San-Francisco based company Tandem have come up with a rather clever idea to get around this problem, two-on-two get togethers.
The idea works like this – After filling out all of the usual personal statistics etc. the internet dating sites members all designate a wingman/woman and then ask another user and their respective plus 1 out on a date, the theory is that going out on a date, accompanied by a friend makes it much easier for people to be themselves and feel relaxed in what, for some, can be quite a stressful situation.
Tandem`s founder Will Tungpagasit quotes…
“You bring a friend and they bring a friend, it establishes a social context that`s much more palatable to a larger audience and people who were too intimidated to engage in an awkward intimate one-on-one situation.”
The company say that the concept is also a fantastic way to persuade single friends to at least try online dating as being accompanied by a friend makes the setting more relaxed and gives users a sense of security, after all even if the date goes really badly at least you have spent the evening with a very good friend. The idea also has obvious security benefits, after all it does not matter how much information someone gives you online you never really know whether that information is the truth and if the person you are meeting can be trusted.
