Woman tries to sell Niece on eBay.
There have been some very strange things for sale on eBay over the years but we think auction agent Diane Hayes placing an add on the site offering her 21yr old niece Emilie Rogers hand in marriage for $9.99 (without her knowledge) tops the lot.
Mrs Hayes decided to place the advert after becoming concerned that her niece was becoming a little too fond of boys with tattoos and the general lack of “boys with substance.”
Hayes quotes, “Both Emilie and I live in Nebraska, where good men are as scarce as trees.”
Although eBay have now removed the advert following an email congratulating Mrs Hayes on her 1000+ positive feedback but warning her never to try that sort of sale again, Mrs Hayes stated that it was never about profit and any money made from the sale would have been donated to charity. The argument could be made that the advert was bordering on human trafficking however Hays strongly defended her actions stating that as far as she was concerned her actions were safe and legal.
Potential suitors were expected to meet very specific standards before applying, they should be 24 to 28 years old, good hygiene, safe driving record, strictly heterosexual, sans Justin Bieber haircut, no piercings, minimum four-year degree, Democrat, dedicated to making the world a better place.
“Your choice to ‘tattoo or not to tattoo’ is a good indicator of your internal thought process,” Hayes wrote in the ad. “If, for instance, on an act of impulse you selected an Insane Clown Posse tattoo and had it boldly emblazoned on your forearm, please do not apply.”
Once Rogers and her parents found out about the ad, Hayes says that they were surprised, but found her intentions funny. “You don’t survive in our family without a sense of humor,” explains Hayes.
